Hello my lovelies,
It’s almost been a whole month since I have written on this blog. But I am hoping to ease back into writing my reviews and sharing a bit more of my thoughts on life. I have been feeling disconnected from this blog and also overwhelmed with my Youtube channel.
Classic me though, I fell down the rabbit hole of YouTube and decided it will be a great idea to start filming my reviews instead. While I enjoyed doing it for over a year, I started feeling pressured to post once a week and make my vlogs high quality, which started to take away the enjoyment of doing it in the first place.
Recently I read a post on the downsides of being a book blogger by Naemi at A Book Owl’s Corner, she spoke about the pressure she puts on herself to show up on her blog and how overwhelming it has become (totally relatable). It got me thinking about what I want out of blogging in general.
I have been blogging on and off for around 15 years (ekkkk, saying that definitely makes me feel my age). I started writing about business while I was in University, then after that, I switched to blogging about witchcraft, and now I am writing reviews on all the books I read. Quite an eclectic mix! However, the main theme has always been that I share my thoughts on whatever I am passionate about at the time. The only difference is that I will always read books, so having a book blog makes sense.
But something in me senses that I need to adapt or change what I am doing, because showing up on Wayward Reviews is feeling like a chore, along with doing reading challenges and trying my best not to fall down a rabbit hole of purchasing more books. So what does this mean?
Well, I think it’s time to go back to the basics.
I have privatised all my YouTube videos, but people can still watch them through my previous posts. As much as I found it easier to verbalise my reviews, the editing process was draining and I started comparing myself to bloggers who review books as a full-time job. This space is a passion project for me, which I have no intention of turning into a job! While my attention span with writing posts can be challenging at times (I am still impressed that I have managed to write this much already?!). I plan to start doing traditional blog posts again, but maybe this time, I will review movies and video games as and when I watch/completed them. I’m a big fan of fantasy video games with interesting storylines, such as The Witcher.
This feels more aligned with what brings me joy.
So starting from September, I am going to refresh my style of posting. I will keep my standard review posts, but I will no longer embed videos and nor will I just focus purely on book reviews. I hope you like this new direction and plan to stick around, if not, I understand and thank you for your support!
Till September.
