“Langlands House is haunted, but not by the ghost you think.” Augusta McAndrew lives on a remote Scottish estate with her grandmother, Rose. For her own safety, she hides from outsiders, as she has done her entire life. Visitors are few and far between – everyone knows that Langlands House is haunted. One day Rose goes out and never returns, leaving Augusta utterly alone. Then Tom McAllister arrives – good-looking and fascinating, but dangerous. What he has to tell her could tear her whole world apart. As Tom and Augusta become ever closer, they must face the question: is love enough to overcome the ghosts of the past? In the end, Langlands House and its inhabitants hold more secrets than they did in the beginning…

Review

* Non-Spoiler Review*

I got this book from my A Box of Stories book box subscription – which I have almost finally finished all the books from the previous boxes! I confess I had been dragging my feet with this one, but I thought this was the right time to read it as it’s the cosy season (aka Autumn).

This book was a grower for me, reading about Augusta and her life at Langlands House was sweet and you could relate to her frustration of not allowing her to meet people. I loved the description of the House and the backdrop of Perth in Scotland.

Augusta, breaks the rules and shows herself to Tom (the handyman’s son) when their roof at Langland needed fixing. What unfolds is a sweet and quite interesting story, when her grandmother Rose disappears it becomes apparent there is more than what it seems. I loved the mystery and the comradery that Augusta and Tom build, Grant did so with an element of ease which made me want to know what would happen next.

What really surprised me was the direction this book took 3/4 of the way through. I didn’t expect the turn it took, and I was here for it. As this is a non-spoiler review I won’t delve any further, but all I can say is it’s not the predictable ending you might think it will be.

Overall, I really enjoyed these books and if you are after an easy paranormal series to read then I would recommend these books!
