Book Log: Winter Wrap Up

Hello my lovelies,

It’s time to say so long to Winter, how was it for you? For me with the crazy weather, almost weekly union strikes, and a lot of personal development going on – I am more than ready for Spring! While I find that my reading has increased it’s still not at the level I was last year, and I am ok with that!

This season I had my first DNF and it was completely unexpected, I am quite upset to be honest as I had high hopes for the book. Also, the variety I read was definitely eclectic but I feel that is the headspace I am in at the moment.

But I digress, let’s dive into my wrap for Winter 2023.

As I mentioned, my form is slowly improve but I haven’t got fully into the swing of things. I managed three books (one per month) and one DNF, I am proud of myself for putting the book down and not torturing myself with it further. I have managed to review all the books I have read (I hope to maintain this level of reviewing as I think it helps me be accountable).

So enjoy!

Finished

Happy Sexy Millionaire was my first book of 2023 and my first non-fiction of 2023. I really enjoyed learning about where Steven came from and how he got to where he is today – along with some sage advice. I know it’s not recreating the wheel but this book really spoke to me on multiple levels.

Reputation, a regency romance with a side of mean girl vibe. To be honest, it wasn’t my cup of tea (which comes as a surprise even to myself). The situations felt a little too modern, the girls’ interactions were not only mean but downright cruel. It caused me not to like the premise at all – along with there being no mentions of some intense triggers!

Blood and Moonlight, a medieval YA fantasy thriller. An unexpected story that had me gripped after the first 100 pages, a refreshing fantasy with the baseline of who done it. Really happy that I went in blind of this one as it didn’t disappoint.

Overall, one book a month is an improvement for me. Let’s hope Spring will give me a much needed pep in my step to get some more books under my belt.

DNF

My first DNF of the year and not one I expected, it had all the trimmings to be an absolute hit! But the story ended up feeling like a checklist for EDI (Equality, Diversity and Inclusion). While I am craving for more books with EDI, it need to be written well, to feel natural and engaging – not like the author was ticking off a checklist.

That’s it! What do you think? How did your TBR go this Winter?

Till next time.
