Miss Linnet Berry Thrynne is a Beauty . . . Naturally, she’s betrothed to a Beast.
If only her gown hadn’t been so fully cut, or she hadn’t been caught kissing that prince . . . But now the ton believes Linnet to be with royal child – and therefore unmarriageable – so she might as well make her desperate father happy by consenting to wed a beast.
A brilliant surgeon with a reputation for losing his temper – and a wound believed to have left him . . . incapable – Piers, Earl of Montague, should welcome a bride-to-be carrying a ready-made, blue-blooded heir. But Piers isn’t fooled by the lady’s subterfuge, and though Linnet’s devilishly smart and charming with a loveliness that outshines the sun, there will be no wedding of beauty to beast.
Still, Linnet finds the gorgeous brute intriguing, with a spark of gentility behind his growl that’s worth fanning. And it’s obvious to the naked eye that ‘incapable’ does not mean ‘uninterested’…

Oh, I do love a good regency romance – and this one didn’t let me down.
Linnet is a passionate and charming girl who gets caught up in a scandal that ruins her reputation. To make matters worse her father and aunt agree to marry her off to the well known surgeon called the “beast”.
Three things I instantly liked about Linnet.
1) she was 23, not 18 like other books I have read. I find it harder to believe when an author talks about a maturity of an MC and they are 17 or 18!
2) Linnet had other interest than just society, she had believable flaws and was written with compassion that enhanced not only her character but the whole story.
3) she wasn’t disillusioned about her life and situation, it appealed to me that she was level headed but at times was driven by her emotions (chef’s kiss in the appreciation of character development).
Now, in regards to our Male MC. James wrote him well, he had a temper, was snarky with his comments but wasn’t physically abusive to his staff. There is a fine line between creating a character who is moody and has a sour constitution without making them abusive and cruel. I am happy to report this is not the case and made me enjoy the characters thoroughly.
The story’s pace was medium, the relationship between the two main characters was not rushed and it was enjoyable to read the scenarios they got into.
Overall, a delightful regency romance and a must read for those who love the genre.
