Jack Valentine is in trouble. The Seekers are living on borrowed time, her ex-girlfriend has gone missing in suspicious circumstances, and someone’s sent her a seriously twisted love letter attached to a hanged man. It’s not that she doesn’t appreciate the sentiment, and sure, the guy deserved everything he got, but even Jack knows that expressions of affection don’t usually involve murder. It’s not the first time Jack’s questionable romantic choices have caused problems. Her latest disaster ended with her nemesis, Drake, buggering off to Europe on an extended sexcation, leaving her to face the consequences of the worst walk-of-shame of her life alone. Dealing with that was bad enough, but now her fellow Seekers are poking their noses into Jack’s love life in a case that threatens to be their last.
Jack has two toe the line or go rogue. And with her team falling apart around her, rebellion’s starting to sound pretty sweet.

I received an eARC from Story Origin in exchange for an honest review.
The third book in the Seekers series. I believe the author went on maternity leave, so the book was delayed – but I didn’t mind because I wouldn’t want her to rush this story.
Jack Valentine is a well-rounded flawed character, which is terribly refreshing and engaging. Throughout her story arc she has done some very questionable and impulsive things, but there is something about her that still makes me want to root for her.
In this book she and the Seekers (a team of vampires who police other vampires to avoid their species being noticed by humans), are running on borrowed time. The Seekers are running on minimal resource and now with the most recent murder supposedly done in Jack’s name…it’s all just a bit messy.
The world that Jaffrey has built is amazing, her characters are diverse and flawed and all have their own motives making the story full of twists and turns. The first half of the book leads you down one path, only for the second half to throw a big old spanner in the works. My only hint is that the story being spun has quite substantial caveats missing.
While the Paranormal Romance lover in me would have liked to see a little more something, something between the love interests, the reader in me loved the storytelling. Especially when certain characters lost their way and you got to go on the mental rollercoaster with them.
Overall, it was an amazing story and I couldn’t completely predict the outcome – so I was very happy with that. I can’t wait for the next one, because I need more Jack Valentine!
