Book Log: Summer 2024 TBR

Hello my lovelies,

Summer has officially arrived, here in the UK (*warning weather talk) there is a glimmer of hope with the recent few sunny days. I am finding that I feel compelled to read a little more and do things that don’t involve me looking at a screen all day long.

This season’s picks are one of my strongest as I have chosen books that fully lean into my favourite genres. Over the past few seasons I have been dipping my toes into other genres, but since Summer starts the day after my birthday – I thought I would treat myself

I still haven’t broken my #bookbuyingban, which is amazing! Six months into this year and I haven’t caved. My fingers are crossed for the next 3 months to see if I can do the same thing!

Now let’s get into what I picked for Summer 2024?

I decided to pick my books using the illumicrate prompt cards I got in their subscription box awhile ago. Along with that, I am going to stick to selecting 6 books again – so statistically 2 books per month. If I find that I can read more than that, I will consider adjusting my number for the next season.

To Read

Overall, the prompts have led me deep into the fantasy realm and I am here for it! A lot of them are big tomes which will be a challenge for me, but I am hoping that the content will not deter me. The book set in Winter was a hard prompt, so I have kind of made an exception and used dark vibes as a close alternative.

  • The oldest book on your TBR – Shadowblade by Anna Kashina
  • A book set in Winter – Godkiller by Hannah Kaner
  • A book recommended by everyone you know – The Bone Season by Samantha Shannon
  • A book from an author you’ve never read before – The very secret society of irregular witches by Sangu Mandanna
  • A book with a one word title – Babel by R.F. Kuang
  • A book featuring your favourite trope – Throne of the Fallen by Kerri Maniscalco

What do you think of the books I picked? Have you read any of them? The Bone Season, Babel and Throne of the Fallen are large books which will take me a hot minute to get through – so wish me luck!

Till next time.
