I was reading through the last few years of reading goals and I had to laugh. 2020 was the year of no lists, which helped me get back into the reading spirit and then 2021 was to get through my TBR – which I managed to make bigger from buying new books instead….
So what am I going to do for 2022?
Well, first things first, I am going to start with the number of books I would like to read in 2022. Looking at 2021 I am currently at 58 books read and I am pretty sure I will finish two more books before the end of 2021. Therefore, I am going to aim for 70 books to be read by the end of 2022.
I think that is realistic right?
Now with that done, I need to think about a theme for 2022. Last year was TBR, which I failed miserably at, and to be honest, I know why. The reason I failed was I signed up for a book subscription box, which then lead me to wander into bookshops and purchase the latest books as well. Plus I also got a new job with an epic pay rise, which helped me justify buying more books – let the chaos ensue.
After that complete disaster of a goal, I am a little unsure what I should do? To make myself accountable for reading I have invested in a book journal i.e. a dotted journal so I can use it as a book bullet journal. Maybe I might focus on reading different genres this year, I think my box of stories will help me with that goal. I had started with mixed fiction, then switched to sci fi/fantasy and now I have moved to YA.
Right, I think I have it!
Out of the 70 books I plan to read in 2022 here is the breakdown:
- 30 Books – Whatever I like
- 10 Books – Non-Fiction
- 10 Books – YA
- 10 Books – Science Fiction
- 10 Books – Fantasy
I think that’s achievable! I know my struggle is always non-fiction as I love to read as escapism, but I have a few friends who are avid non-fiction readers, so I feel I can get so really good recommendations.
Have you set your book goals yet for 2022? If so, what are they? I would love to hear what you have planned in the comments below.
