Book Log: Winter 2023/2024 Wrap Up

Hello my lovelies,

It’s time to say so long to Winter. I am ready now for the lighter and warmer days!

What an action packed Winter is was for me, I had lots of social events on and work was insanely busy (which during this time it usually wasn’t).

I am a little sad that the Winter here in London was sub par, it barely got lower than 3 degrees…hardly any frost and not snow at all! Maybe next Winter it might perk up a bit?

Reading wise, I am happy to report that I got through more books then Autumn #winning. I feel my old reading self starting to stretch her arms out and embrace the beauty of reading again.

So let’s dive into my wrap for Winter 2023/2024

Finished

Good Material – I was on the fence about this one, a buddy read, I found the story refreshing (a break up from a male point of view). But it was really slow in regards to how the main character story developed. I felt listless, to the point where I struggled to read on. I think I wouldn’t have finished it if it wasn’t a buddy read.

Daughter of the Moon Goddess – Following Good Material, I was immensely happy to read this book. It had everything I wanted in it, amazing world building, interesting plot line and engaging characters that you can’t help but root for – or wish their own demise.

Welcome to Hyunam-Dong Bookshop – This book I have been reading since January. However, this book for me was one where I didn’t want to rush through it. A cosy story about a bookshop owner, and how her life and those around her are impacted by working in this bookshop.

Grave Cold – A sci-fi fantasy that blended modern technology, souls and a dystopian setting. This was an ARC from the author and it was a refreshing concept, I enjoyed the concept and the uniqueness of the world.

Overall, three books from my Winter TBR and one from my Autumn TBR. I think I would call this progress haha. The genres were broad, event though I didn’t manage a non fiction, me reading contemporary and literary fiction is unusual.

How do you find reading a variety of genres? I confess it is a struggle for me at occasion to read outside of my comfort zone.

That’s it! What do you think? How did you go in the end – manage to read more than expected??

Till next time.

  1. Great wrap up! And I don’t read much out of my comfort genres either. I’ve been in a slump lately though, so it has me venturing out a little.
