August 2026 Wrap Up

Hello, my lovelies.

Welcome to pre-autumn – though strictly speaking, autumn doesn’t officially begin until the 22nd of September. Even so, I am genuinely relieved to be heading into the cooler months. Those UK heatwaves took a serious toll on both my mental and physical energy.

Now, it is time for a proper September reset. I need to review my mental and physical goals and start rebuilding my daily habits. It’s interesting seeing people online refer to this period as a second January refresh; it’s an approach that definitely makes sense right now.

Before getting ahead of myself, let’s look at what I actually read in August. There has been some welcome progress on that front, which has given me a lot to think about regarding how I want to curate my TBR list for September.

That is where I am currently – but let’s dive into the wrap-up!

Here is a reminder of the books I picked for August:

Rollover Book: The Art of War by Sun-Tzu

Subscription Book: Metal Slinger by Rachel Schneider, Verity Guild by Mai Corland, & Savage Blossom by S.T Gibson

Exploding Book: Lies We Sing to the Sea by Sarah Underwood

Interesting Read: Start with Yourself by Emma Grede & Stone Blind by Natalie Haynes

What I’ve Read:

Verity Guild – This one came as a genuine surprise. It was a book box selection, and I thoroughly enjoyed the Roman setting coupled with the murder mystery. Corland also managed to balance the enemies-to-lovers trope so that it didn’t overshadow the central plot, keeping the dynamic surprisingly believable. I came away genuinely impressed.

The Art of War – This one took a while to get through. While The Art of War itself is quite brief, I wanted to take the time to properly digest Sun Tzu’s principles. It was particularly striking to see firsthand why military strategists and business leaders alike rely on it as a blueprint for competition.

Therefore, I read 2 books in August.

There is momentum here, but it’s not quite where I want it to be. Still, progress is progress. With a holiday coming up this September, I am hoping to get through at least one, perhaps two, books over that ten-day stretch.

Fingers crossed.

DNF:

It has been quite a while since I DNF’d a book, but unfortunately, this one had to go within the first chapter. I instantly disliked the writing style, the premise, and the initial character. I was genuinely surprised by how visceral my reaction was to putting it down… suffice to say, it was simply not for me.

How did you get on in August?

Till next time.
