Judgement Road by Christine Feehan

Judgment Road

I was so excited to read the new series launched by Christine Feehan. A spin off from the Sisters of the Heart, I was ready for love, action and supernatural powers!

It’s a long road to redemption.

As the enforcer of the Torpedo Ink motorcycle club, Reaper lives for riding and fighting. He’s a stone-cold killer who turns his wrath on those who deserve it. Feelings are a weakness he can’t afford–until a gorgeous bartender gets under his skin . . .

Near Sea Haven, the small town of Caspar has given Anya Rafferty a new lease on life. And she’s desperate to hold on to her job at the biker bar, even if the scariest member of the club seems to have it out for her. But Reaper’s imposing presence and smoldering looks just ratchet up the heat.

Anya’s touch is everything Reaper doesn’t want – and it brands him to the bone. But when her secrets catch up to her, Reaper will have to choose between Anya and his club–his heart and his soul.

I really really really wanted this series to kick off! Yet, I found that it was all lacking…I mean where do I start? But before I do, I thought I would give you a little background information. I have been reading Christine Feehan from when I was 16, so about 14 years (gasp). I was given the Dark Prince by a family friend, and that was when the addiction started. It was my first dip into the world of PNR and have never looked back!

Over the years I have begun to struggle with Feehan’s content, there seems to be more erotica then romance and the storylines suffer for it. Sadly I stepped away from the Dark Series after I finished reading her book one of the characters I have been patiently waiting to be written (it was such a lousy storyline I couldn’t find the passion for picking up the next book). Her only saving grace for me was the Sister of the Heart Series and the Dark Sisters Series.

So when I heard she was releasing a spin-off series from the last book from the Sisters of the Heart, I was fist pumping with excitement. If it was anything like the previous book, then I was looking forward to it.

Yet, I think I might have had high expectations.

The story picks up with the gang having settled into there new lives in Caspar (a town not far from Sea Haven). I was surprised that Feehan went with an enforcer character rather than the Vice President, but I do understand when you are compelled to write a story you go with it! I like Reaper, he was your classic staunch protector who was struggling to remain in the real world. It was interesting to see his point of view in protecting their leader and gang. Spot on for research! The heroine, however, bugged the crap out of me, she grew up on the streets, yet she was such a pushover! I was hoping she was going to use the battle of wills, but it came off more her bending to please he constantly. The underlining theme had good context, I liked the incorporation of other gangs and the drama that comes along with them.

I think what is really getting me is the overkill of hot and heavy scenes, now if you are a romance reader (including any sub romance genres). Then you are all down for a little bit of action between the MC’s, though when it is in nearly every chapter, it becomes tiresome. We want a story, character development and of course the steamy bits! There is the delicate balance, and I think Feehan has lost it. It feels like erotica, which is disappointing given her vast world she has created. I literally spoiled the whole book for me.

Overall, there is so much potential, but seriously that balance needs to be found again!
